Sompo Appoints Nicolas Berg CEO of UK Insurance Business

Sompo International Holdings Ltd. announced that Nicolas (Nic) Berg is appointed CEO of Sompo's UK Insurance business, effective October 1, 2026, subject to regulatory approval. Mr Berg joins Sompo from SCOR Group, where he was most recently CEO of SCOR US and Head of P&C North America. He succeeds Sarah Stanford, who has led the UK Insurance business through its initial integration period following Sompo's acquisition of Aspen and is stepping down as CEO, UK Insurance on September 30. Mr Berg will be based in London and will report to Alessa Quane, CEO of International Markets. Ms Quane said: "He will play a critical role in advancing our strategy, accelerating our momentum and positioning Sompo as a leading commercial insurer in the UK market."

Japan Post Insurance and Scor sign MoU on reinsurance vehicle

Japan Post Insurance and French reinsurer Scor have signed a memorandum of understanding on ceding underwriting risks linked to postal life insurance policies. Under the agreement, Scor will establish, invest in and operate a reinsurance vehicle that will assume underwriting risks held by both companies, providing risk diversification benefits. Japan Post Insurance will also invest in the vehicle to support its financial soundness. The parties plan to continue discussions on transaction details, with completion subject to final agreement and regulatory approvals.

SCOR acknowledges arbitration award confirming validity of Covéa retrocession treaties

SCOR has acknowledged an arbitration award confirming the validity of retrocession treaties entered into with Covéa in June 2021. The treaties transfer 30% of the Life & Health portfolio held by SCOR's Irish entities as at December 31, 2020 to Covéa. The arbitration tribunal also awarded compensation to Covéa of USD 488.3 million. After taking into account provisions, the impact on SCOR's net results at Q2 2026 will be approximately EUR 50 million, with no negative impact on SCOR's solvency ratio and liquidity position. SCOR remains focused on executing the final year of its Forward 2026 plan.
