Vontobel's first-half profit surges 87% to record SFr216m

Vontobel posted a record first-half profit, with earnings jumping 87% year-on-year to SFr216m. Revenues increased 24% to SFr852m, while operating expenses totalled SFr579m, pushing the cost-income ratio down to 67.9% from 77.9% a year earlier and below the group's through-the-cycle target of 72%. Assets under management rose 5% to SFr252.2bn, and net new money reached SFr2.5bn, up from SFr2bn in the prior-year period. The CET1 ratio improved to 23.2% and return on equity climbed to 16.9% from 10.2%. All regions posted inflows, with the private clients business attracting SFr2.5bn in net new money, equivalent to a growth rate of 4.1%, while institutional clients saw adjusted net new money of SFr3.8bn after stripping out outflows linked to Raiffeisen and Quality Growth net inflows. The group's SFr100m efficiency programme is running ahead of plan and is expected to be completed by year-end, supporting operating leverage as revenue growth outpaces costs.

Vontobel co-CEO Georg Schubiger to lead Swiss wealth banks association

Georg Schubiger, co-chief executive of Vontobel, has been chosen to lead the Association of Swiss Asset and Wealth Management Banks, replacing Giorgio Pradelli of EFG International. Stefan Bollinger, chief executive of Bank Julius Bär & Co, was selected as vice-president, while Alexander Classen, chairman of the board at EFG International, and Marcel Rohner, vice-chairman of the board at Union Bancaire Privée, were elected to the board. The changes take effect on 18 September 2026. Schubiger has served as vice-president since 2024, and the association highlighted his and Bollinger's extensive international wealth management experience. Pradelli, who led the association for two years, is set to become chairman of the Swiss Bankers Association.
