Consumers Energy Company is an electric and gas utility operating in Michigan. It generates, purchases, transmits, distributes, and sells electricity from coal, wind, gas, renewable energy, oil, and nuclear sources, as well as natural gas. It serves residential, commercial, and diversified industrial customers. Formerly known as Consumers Power Company, it changed its name to Consumers Energy Company in March 1997. Founded in 1886, the company is based in Jackson, Michigan, and operates as a subsidiary of CMS Energy Corporation.
