Ellington Financial Inc. acquires and manages mortgage-related, consumer-related, corporate-related, and other financial assets in the United States through its subsidiary, Ellington Financial Operating Partnership LLC. It operates in two segments: Investment Portfolio and Longbridge. The company invests in residential and commercial mortgage loans, mortgage-backed securities, consumer loans and asset-backed securities, collateralized loan obligations, mortgage-related derivatives, and debt and equity investments in loan origination companies. It also offers reverse mortgage loans and related financial assets. Ellington Financial Inc. qualifies as a real estate investment trust (REIT) for federal income tax purposes and intends to distribute at least 90% of its taxable income as dividends to shareholders. The company was incorporated in 2007 and is headquartered in Old Greenwich, Connecticut.

Longbridge Drives Ellington Financial's First-Quarter Earnings Jump

Ellington Financial's Longbridge segment generated $57.5 million in net income in the first quarter, helping the company report earnings of 78 cents per share, up from 35 cents a year earlier.
