It operates through three segments: Generation and Transmission of Electrical Energy, Electrical Energy Distribution, and Commercialization. The company produces electricity from hydroelectric and wind power, and constructs, operates, and maintains substations and energy transmission lines. Formerly known as Companhia Paranaense de Energia Elétrica, it changed its name to Companhia Paranaense de Energia - COPEL in October 1979. Founded in 1954, the company is headquartered in Curitiba, Brazil.
