The company provides market making, acquisitions, refurbishment, dispositions, valuations, and secured lending services, and also identifies, values, acquires, and monetizes tangible assets. It acts as an adviser and principal, acquiring or brokering manufacturing facilities, surplus industrial machinery and equipment, industrial inventories, and charged-off receivable portfolios. Formerly known as Counsel RB Capital Inc., it changed its name to Heritage Global, Inc. in August 2013. The company was founded in 1937 and is headquartered in San Diego, California.
