Alphabet Inc Class COpenAI's Astra for Law targets the legal AI market where Google's Gemini Enterprise legal capabilities compete, intensifying rivalry.

OpenAI released Astra for Law on the 17th, a version of its latest AI model, GPT-6 Astra, tailored to the legal industry. It is designed to help law firms and legal software providers conduct research, draft advice, and build custom applications for lawyers. According to OpenAI, the new product combines Astra with an index of legal materials such as U.S. case law, statutes, and regulations, and adds specialized instructions for legal analysis and document drafting. Technology companies are competing to win over law firms and in-house legal departments as customers; Google last month expanded the legal-industry capabilities of its enterprise AI platform Gemini Enterprise, and Anthropic has released tools for lawyers built on its Claude AI assistant since January.
