AbbVie IncEU approval of MAVIRET for acute hepatitis C, a new indication, with strong Phase 3 data.

The European Commission has approved AbbVie's MAVIRET for the treatment of acute hepatitis C virus infection in adults and children aged 3 years and older with compensated liver disease. MAVIRET becomes the only treatment approved in the European Union for both acute and chronic HCV infection, potentially streamlining care pathways and supporting elimination goals. The approval was supported by a Phase 3 study in which 96.2% of patients achieved sustained virological response 12 weeks post-treatment. AbbVie noted that more than 12 million people in Europe live with hepatitis C, underscoring the need for earlier intervention. The company continues to collaborate with global regulators to expand access to the therapy.
