Airbnb IncAirbnb tests lower host fees, which could reduce revenue per booking but may attract more supply and retain bookings.

Airbnb is testing a program in the U.S. that lowers fees for some hosts to as little as 6%, aiming to encourage property owners to bring guests to the platform. The pilot, reported by Bloomberg, is offered to select hosts using third-party software to manage listings. Participating hosts can generate a unique booking link; when a guest books through it, Airbnb's take rate drops to either 6% or 10%, compared with the company's average of 16%. The limited-time program is designed to gauge how pricing affects hosting businesses and may help Airbnb retain bookings that could otherwise shift to hosts' own websites. Airbnb has not disclosed how many U.S. hosts are participating or whether it will expand the reduced fees more broadly.
