Alkermes PlcPhase 2 data for alixorexton met endpoints but stock fell 31% after hours, likely due to market disappointment with the magnitude of effect or safety profile.

Alkermes shares fell about 31% in after-hours trading Wednesday after the company reported phase 2 results for its narcolepsy type 2 drug candidate alixorexton. The Vibrance-2 trial met its dual primary endpoints, showing statistically significant improvements from baseline on the Maintenance of Wakefulness Test and the Epworth Sleepiness Scale at week eight compared to placebo. Patient-reported improvements in wakefulness were maintained through a five-week open-label extension, and those on alixorexton also saw improvements in fatigue versus placebo, with no serious treatment-emergent adverse events reported. Alkermes said it has begun a phase 3 program examining once-daily and split dose regimens of the oral selective orexin 2 receptor agonist.
