Operating income in the cloud segment more than tripled to $8.8 billion, and total operating margin expanded to 34%, yielding $40.8 billion in operating income. However, capital expenditures surged to $44.9 billion, resulting in negative free cash flow of $5.8 billion, and management raised its full-year capex forecast by $15 billion to a range of $195 billion to $205 billion. The company holds over $240 billion in cash and marketable securities, and analysts note that the spending is aimed at capturing AI opportunities across cloud, generative AI, and advertising.
