Amazon Blocks Meta's Muse AI Agent From Shopping on Its Site

SpaceXAI's Grok Bot has surpassed 400,000 users barely a month after launch, reaching 418,000 users as of September 14, up 24% in a single week. The enterprise-focused agentic-AI tool launched in mid-August and is designed to complete tasks across different apps and file types, positioning SpaceXAI to gain traction beyond the consumer chatbot market. The milestone arrived alongside Monday's release of Grok 4.7, which SpaceXAI describes as its most capable frontier model yet for coding and knowledge work. Meta Platforms' competing Muse agent, aimed more directly at consumers, recorded about 730,000 downloads in its first 10 days following its September 8 launch and reached the No. 1 position among free apps on both Apple's U.S. App Store and Google Play. SpaceXAI offers Grok Bot as a standalone application and through multiple AI subscription tiers, giving it several potential routes to convert adoption into recurring revenue.

Shopify is partnering with Meta to let users complete purchases through Muse, Meta's AI shopping agent, using Shopify's Shop Pay checkout service. The partnership gives Muse users access to Shopify merchants and allows the AI agent to handle the checkout process, with Shopify CEO Tobi Lutke saying the companies are working together to enable agentic checkout across Shopify stores. The announcement comes as Amazon takes a different approach, having recently blocked Muse from its retail platform on the argument that third-party applications making purchases on behalf of customers should respect a retailer's decision on whether to participate. OpenAI's ChatGPT, Google's Gemini and Perplexity's Comet have also been blocked from Amazon's shopping platform, highlighting a growing fight over how AI agents interact with online retailers. SHOP shares rose more than 5% before the bell Tuesday, extending Monday's gains, and the next catalyst is how quickly Shopify expands agentic checkout across its merchant base and whether more major retailers adopt or restrict AI-driven purchases.

Wall Street is repricing Meta Platforms as a potential new revenue engine after its Muse AI agent drew 2.8 million downloads in its first 12 days and outpaced ChatGPT's early curve on a comparable-launch basis, according to Apptopia data. Meta shares rose 1.37% intraday, extending a run that has added more than $200 billion in market value since Muse launched September 8. Muse, which can send emails, book travel, and complete transactions on a user's behalf, is free at the basic tier with subscriptions at $20 and $100 a month. Jefferies estimated that if Muse reaches 1 billion users by the end of 2027 and at least 3% convert to paid tiers, it could generate $10.8 billion in annualized revenue, and raised its price target to $875. JPMorgan called Muse potentially the most widely used consumer AI app since ChatGPT, crediting Meta's distribution reach and a free tier that lowers the trial barrier.
