Amazon.com IncAmazon is scaling back most of its in-house Nova flagship AI models, indicating a strategic shift that may delay or reduce its competitive position in AI.

Amazon is revamping its artificial intelligence strategy and has begun winding down most of its in-house Nova flagship models, Business Insider reported. The affected models include the high-end Premier and Omni, the video generation model Reel, and the image generation model Canvas. Instead, the company is redirecting resources toward frontier model development led by researcher Peter Abbeel, which has become the top priority this year. The new flagship model is expected to be unveiled at the annual re:Invent conference later this year. An Amazon spokesperson said the company is evolving its model lineup based on customer needs and continues to invest in both existing Nova models and next-generation frontier model research.
