Amazon.com IncAWS backlog of $496B and strong demand signals future revenue.
Amazon Web Services reported a backlog of $496 billion during the second quarter, signaling substantial unrecognized revenue ahead. AWS generated 60% of Amazon's operating income while accounting for only 21% of sales, underscoring its role as the company's most profitable segment. Amazon plans to spend $220 billion on capital expenditures this year, nearly all for data center construction, yet CEO Andy Jassy said the company will not be able to fulfill demand in 2026 or 2027 and is already seeing 2028 demand emerge. At AWS's current quarterly run rate of $42.2 billion, the backlog would take about three years to work through.
