Amazon.com IncMassive $220B AI capex plan and negative free cash flow weigh on shares despite strong earnings.
Amazon shares fell about 0.5% to $260.7675 Tuesday morning even as the Nasdaq climbed and bond yields eased, as investors weighed the company's massive AI spending plans. Second-quarter revenue surged 20% to $200.6 billion, operating income reached $27.5 billion, and Amazon Web Services sales exploded 37% to $42.2 billion, while advertising revenue jumped 26% to $19.8 billion. Management raised expected 2026 capital spending to roughly $220 billion, equal to about 110% of Amazon's latest quarterly revenue, and trailing free cash flow has already sunk to negative $7.6 billion. The stock also sits 5.76% above its GF Value estimate of $246.57, underscoring concerns that AWS demand is real but so are the depreciation, electricity, and construction bills.
