Advanced Micro Devices is positioned to be the biggest winner in the artificial intelligence inference market, according to an analysis comparing Nvidia, AMD, and Cerebras Systems. While Nvidia uses a combination of GPUs and LPUs with on-chip SRAM for inference, and Cerebras employs giant wafer-scale chips that are up to 15 times faster than Nvidia's GPUs, AMD's chiplet design and its acquisition of memory optimization software company MEXT offer a cost-effective solution that reduces reliance on expensive high-bandwidth memory. AMD is also set to benefit from the rise of agentic AI, which is expected to shift the GPU-to-CPU ratio in data centers from about 8 to 1 to around 1 to 1, playing to AMD's strength as a leading CPU maker.
