Advanced Micro Devices IncUnexpectedly strong server CPU demand is squeezing supply, with CEO expecting 70%+ growth and better 2027 conditions.

Advanced Micro Devices said stronger-than-expected demand has tightened its server CPU supply chain, but CEO Lisa Su forecasts conditions will improve in 2027. During the second-quarter 2026 earnings call, Su stated the server CPU supply chain remained constrained in the first half of 2026 because much of the demand was unforecasted. She added that AMD now has better visibility into expected demand, which should allow more effective capacity planning with supply partners, and that the 2027 server supply situation should be better than 2026. Su also expressed confidence in meeting expectations for more than 70 percent year-over-year growth in the server CPU business, with potential for that growth to go higher. The tight supply comes amid broader industry shortages, with Intel and AMD entering long-term supply agreements with Chinese customers and companies like Tesla and Apple warning about DRAM shortages impacting production.
