American Express management projects long-term annual revenue growth of 10% and mid-teens diluted earnings per share growth. In the second quarter, 65% of new consumer card signups globally came from millennials and Gen Z, whose spending is growing faster than older generations. CEO Steve Squeri said the company is intentionally investing in rewards and benefits, such as the Platinum card refresh, to strengthen its competitive position even if it pressures near-term profitability.
