Circle Internet Group, Inc.Launch of rival stablecoin Open USD backed by 140+ partners including Coinbase is bearish for Circle's long-term payments ambitions.
Wall Street analysts are divided over Circle Internet Group, the issuer of USDC, following the launch of a rival stablecoin. Compass Point upgraded the stock to Neutral from Sell on June 30 but slashed its price target to $55 from $97, citing the announcement of Open USD, a stablecoin backed by more than 140 partners including Coinbase. The firm called the news bearish for Circle's long-term payments ambitions, noting the stock trades at 32 times its 2026 estimated EBITDA. In contrast, Clear Street reiterated a Buy rating and $157 price target on July 1, calling the selloff excessive and comparing OUSD's prospects to the consortium-backed stablecoin USDG, which has failed to gain meaningful share. Circle's stock closed at $68.64 on July 6, up 6.22% on the day.
