Anutin Set to Press Trump for Special Tariff After Thailand Complies with Joint Statement

Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed that trade and customs tariff negotiations with the United States are nearing a final conclusion. Tomorrow he will meet with Deputy Prime Minister and Commerce Minister Supajee Suthumpun, who reported that agreement in principle has been reached on almost all points, with only a little remaining, and that efforts are being made to have the leaders speak directly. Anutin confirmed the negotiations are moving in a good direction. As for the schedule for a direct call to US President Donald Trump, details must be checked again, though reports of calls between the two sides have been coming in since last week. Anutin said that if he has the opportunity to speak with the US president, he will ask about the consideration of a special tariff rate for Thailand, after Thailand carried out the joint statement on the Thai-Cambodian conflict, including mine clearance, troop withdrawal, and cracking down on scammer networks. As for reports that a list of 28 individuals alleged to be linked to scammer networks was proposed for the US to investigate and consider sanctions, including the name of former minister Woraphak Thanyawong, Anutin said he had seen the name and stated that those accused must appoint lawyers and provide explanations themselves, adding that the matter has nothing to do with the government.
