Intel CorporationPotential major customer for Intel's foundry business, strengthening its contract chip manufacturing.
A potential chip manufacturing agreement between Apple and Intel could strengthen Intel's contract chip business and expand Apple's manufacturing capacity, but commercial production remains years away, according to analysts cited by Reuters. Malcolm Penn, CEO of Future Horizons, said the absolute best possible case is two to three years before the first chips leave production, calling it a huge leap of faith for Apple to rely on Intel's unproven foundry track record. Bob O'Donnell of TECHnalysis Research said Apple would likely prefer Intel's 14A process, which he expects to become available in 2028 or 2029. Daniel Newman, CEO of Futurum Group, suggested Apple could begin with less critical components before broader adoption, while Paul Meeks of Freedom Capital Markets cautioned against assuming perfect execution given Intel's historical manufacturing challenges and yield concerns.
