Apple is developing an enterprise AI server built around its own M8 Ultra chips for a 2029 launch and has held talks with Nvidia about using its NVLink Fusion interconnect to link those chips, The Information reported. The server would come in two configurations, one pairing two M8 Ultra chips and one pairing four, aimed at AI developers, businesses and governments, and some Apple engineers consider NVLink Fusion the best available connectivity option. The platform bundles switches, chiplets and software so chips from different vendors can communicate at high speed, and Nvidia earns roughly a fifth of its data center revenue from networking gear. Mac was Apple's fastest-growing segment last quarter, with revenue up nearly 29% to $10.4 billion on unexpected demand from AI developers buying Mac mini and Mac Studio units, creating supply shortages. New chief executive John Ternus backed the server project when it started about a year ago, while running hardware engineering.
