Apple Inc.Memory costs surge to 34% of BOM, forcing price hikes and margin pressure.
Apple has already raised iPhone prices by as much as $300 as memory's share of the iPhone Pro bill of materials jumped from roughly 10% a year ago to about 34% in the third quarter of 2026, according to a TrendForce report published August 10, 2026. TrendForce expects that share to exceed 40% in the first half of 2027, with the iPhone 18 Pro 256GB bill of materials cost rising about 38% year over year, and contract memory prices have risen five to sevenfold since the start of 2025. Apple CEO Tim Cook described the situation as a "100-year flood" in memory prices, and the company guided June-quarter gross margin to 47.5% to 48.5%. Jefferies downgraded Apple to Underperform with a $263.66 target, citing rising memory costs and the cancellation of an all-glass iPhone. Memory suppliers are benefiting, with Micron Technology posting fiscal third-quarter revenue of $41.456 billion, up 345.7% year over year, and shares up 201.86% year to date, while Qualcomm's handset revenue fell 20% to $5.086 billion as smartphone volumes come under pressure.
