Apple is testing CXMT DRAM chips for China devices, which could diversify supply but also risks geopolitical backlash.

Apple is reportedly testing DRAM chips from China's state-backed ChangXin Memory Technologies for devices sold in China, as memory sourcing becomes another geopolitical pressure point. The company is also lobbying the U.S. government to allow broader use of CXMT products, according to the Financial Times. CXMT plans to raise at least 29.5 billion yuan in a Shanghai IPO, which could make it one of China's most prominent technology listings. Apple previously drew criticism from U.S. policymakers in 2022 after exploring the use of Chinese memory suppliers.
