Apple Inc.Apple must change tracking prompts in Europe, easing regulatory pressure and potentially improving ad economics.
Apple will modify its app-tracking consent requests in Europe after Germany's Federal Cartel Office found the current system favored Apple's own apps over third-party developers. The regulator said Apple's App Tracking Transparency framework uses different consent prompts for Apple services and third-party developers, which may breach competition rules. Apple has four months to implement changes, with commitments lasting seven years. The new system will require third-party consent prompts to use more neutral language, symbols, and design, and give developers more room to combine Apple's consent request with separate data-protection prompts. The decision could improve mobile advertising economics in Europe and remove one regulatory pressure point for Apple.
