BWX Technologies IncBWXT secures exclusive manufacturing rights and royalty stream from licensing mPower SMR technology to Applied Atomics.

Applied Atomics has entered an exclusive licensing agreement with BWX Technologies for the mPower small modular reactor technology, granting Applied Atomics exclusive rights to develop and deploy land-based nuclear facilities using mPower in the United States, Canada, and elsewhere. BWXT retains ownership of the mPower intellectual property and holds exclusive manufacturing rights for all mPower components, plus royalty rights for components made by Applied Atomics or third parties. The mPower design is an integral pressurized light water reactor generating 195 megawatts of electricity and 575 megawatts thermal per reactor, with an integrated steam generator that eliminates primary coolant piping to reduce loss-of-coolant accident risk. Applied Atomics plans to re-engage the Nuclear Regulatory Commission to resume design certification and develop site-specific engineering for initial commercial deployments, targeting dedicated power supply for industrial and technology sectors as the primary initial market. The agreement comes as U.S. electricity demand is projected to grow at its fastest rate in a generation, with data center construction expected to require more than 300 gigawatts of new power capacity by 2035.
