Applied Materials plans to invest $5B in India over the next decade to expand its presence in the country, the semiconductor equipment maker said at SEMICON India, the country's flagship chip conference. The investment will follow a three-pillar approach focused on deepening research and development in India, accelerating the semiconductor ecosystem and developing future talent, a company executive said. Prabu Raja, president of the semiconductor products group at Applied Materials, said the company is committing to a new 140-acre advanced semiconductor research park bringing together cleanroom capabilities, engineering expertise, and collaborative R&D with customers and suppliers. Raja added that by 2035 Applied Materials aims to grow its India-based supply chain capacity 10 times, creating opportunities for Indian suppliers and bringing global suppliers to the country. The stock was up 1.9% premarket.
