Asian stock markets closed mixed today, with South Korea's KOSPI index plunging nearly 6% to close at 5,663.24 points, down 360.42 points, as technology and semiconductor stocks were heavily sold off, led by SK Hynix which fell almost 10% and Samsung Electronics which dropped more than 5%. Japan's Nikkei index closed down 1.49% at 61,434.19 points, a decline of 930.73 points, also pressured by selling in tech stocks, with SoftBank Group sliding 7%. Meanwhile, Chinese and Hong Kong markets bucked the trend to close higher. The Shanghai Composite Index rose 0.40% to close at 3,828.47 points, and the Hang Seng Index gained nearly 2% to close at 25,807.92 points, up 497.07 points. Investors are watching the US Federal Reserve's interest rate decision and the Fed chair's press conference today, amid concerns over rising oil prices due to tensions in the Middle East.
