XtalPi-Backed Viva-Thera Nominates HIV-1 MPER PCC in Seven Months
XtalPi announced that Viva-Thera, a biotechnology company it incubated and backs as a strategic shareholder, has nominated a preclinical candidate targeting the membrane-proximal external region of HIV-1 gp41, completing discovery and optimization in seven months by combining Viva-Thera's atomic-resolution structural research with XtalPi's AI drug design and automation platform. Deploying generative AI from the outset, XtalPi navigated a chemical space of approximately 10 million compounds to isolate five validated hits with desirable drug properties and strong antiviral activity, then continuously optimized the leads to reach PCC nomination. The asset targets gp41-mediated membrane fusion at MPER, a region that retains approximately 90% sequence identity across viral strains, opening a path toward a broad-spectrum antiviral with a binding site distinct from those addressed by reverse-transcriptase, integrase, and protease inhibitors. In its public debut, Viva-Thera also reported that its MPER vaccine immunogens elicited antibody levels in rhesus macaques approximately five times those of the conventional HIV immunogen comparator, with antisera retaining substantial inhibition of HIV pseudovirus infection at a 1:1,000 dilution. The company is pursuing HIV prevention and cure through four modalities—vaccines, long-acting small molecules, gene therapy and cell therapy—and its gene-therapy program has completed vector construction, cell-infection experiments and CD4+ T-cell introduction in humanized mice, with live-virus infection and treatment studies in preparation.
IBM and NASA Release Open Lunar AI Model as IBM, Lockheed, ETH Zurich Launch Quantum Hub
International Business Machines and NASA have released an open Lunar Foundation Model for scientific lunar research to the public, while IBM, Lockheed Martin and ETH Zurich have created a quantum innovation hub to broaden access to quantum computing research and training. The ETH Zurich quantum hub is intended to support industrial use cases in areas such as materials science, financial services and aerospace. International Business Machines is a US IT group with a US$216.3b market cap that sells integrated hardware, software and services, and its work with NASA and the ETH Zurich quantum hub taps into areas where large research and enterprise clients already use its infrastructure and consulting capabilities. The clearest test of the bull case will come as IBM reports how many paying industrial and research workloads actually run on Quantum System Two and related services at ETH Zurich once that system is deployed, and whether management starts breaking out any quantum or lunar AI related revenue or backlog in future quarterly updates. The bear case centers on execution risk in turning complex research collaborations into scalable, high margin Software and Consulting revenue rather than isolated projects.
QAD | Redzone to Integrate NVIDIA AI for Manufacturing Intelligence
QAD | Redzone announced at Champions of Manufacturing in Chicago that it plans to integrate NVIDIA technologies to accelerate Manufacturing Intelligence. The company intends to combine its manufacturing context and footprint across thousands of manufacturing plants with NVIDIA accelerated computing and AI to build a federated intelligence layer connecting the factory floor with ERP, supply chain, quality and workforce systems. Initial capabilities will leverage NVIDIA's NVDinoV2 vision foundation model for quality inspection, with a downstream reasoning layer to explain what is detected and what it means for the production order, quality record and workflow it touches. QAD | Redzone also intends to use NVIDIA multimodal AI to process documents such as certificates of analysis, supplier documents, quality records, invoices, delivery notes, specifications and compliance documentation, and is evaluating NVIDIA's NeMo Switchyard, an intelligent routing layer that directs routine manufacturing AI decisions to optimized local models while routing complex reasoning to frontier AI. The company, backed by Thoma Bravo, intends to begin structured deployments with selected manufacturing customers focused initially on visual intelligence, intelligent document processing, conversational Manufacturing Intelligence and accelerated production optimization, with the objective of demonstrating measurable value in 90 days. "Manufacturers are surrounded by intelligence, but today most of it is trapped," said Sanjay Brahmawar, CEO of QAD | Redzone, adding that the ambition is to federate that intelligence and put it to work.
