Australia sees 290% jump in H5N1 cases, Victoria orders poultry indoors

Australia has recorded a total of 203 confirmed or suspected positive H5N1 avian influenza cases nationwide, a 290% increase in August from 52 cases at the end of July. South Australia has the most cases at 147, mostly in wild seabirds, while Victoria has 43. The Victorian government has ordered poultry farmers along the southern coast, including Melbourne, who keep at least 50 birds to house them indoors for 14 days to control the outbreak.
