Net sales increased 8.4% to $4.84 billion, slightly below the $4.86 billion consensus, while domestic same-store sales grew 4.1% driven by a 10.4% jump in commercial sales. Gross margin dipped 57 basis points to 52.2% due to a $20 million non-cash LIFO charge, and the company expects a further $30 million LIFO charge in the fourth quarter. AutoZone opened 82 new stores globally, bringing the total to 7,856, and repurchased 164,000 shares for $586.3 million.
