Baidu IncQ2 revenue and EPS missed expectations, driving shares down 6%

Baidu shares fell 6% on Tuesday after the Chinese internet company posted second-quarter results that trailed Wall Street expectations, despite continued expansion across its AI operations. Revenue totaled RMB31.3 billion, or $4.62 billion, down 4% from a year earlier and below the $4.74 billion consensus forecast, while non-GAAP diluted earnings came to $1.06 per ADS compared with analysts' estimate of $1.46. AI-related operations provided a counterpoint, with revenue from Baidu's AI-powered businesses increasing 25% to RMB12.5 billion, AI Cloud Infrastructure revenue advancing 50% to RMB7.3 billion, and GPU Cloud revenue climbing 283%. However, online marketing remained a drag, with revenue declining 19% to RMB13.1 billion, and Baidu General Business revenue slipped 4% to RMB25.2 billion as advertising demand remained pressured. Baidu's shares are down about 20% year to date, compared with a 13.2% gain for the broader index, and the results may keep attention focused on whether accelerating AI revenue can offset weakness in the company's traditional advertising business.
