Barclays reported second-quarter 2026 group income of £8.3 billion, up £1.2 billion from the prior year, and upgraded its full-year income guidance to approximately £31.5 billion from the original target of around £30 billion. Profit before tax rose more than 30% to £3.3 billion, while return on tangible equity reached 16.1% for the quarter and 14.8% for the first half. The bank announced £1.8 billion in shareholder distributions for the second quarter, comprising a £1 billion share buyback and an £800 million interim dividend, bringing first-half distributions to £2.3 billion, a 61% increase over the first half of 2025. Group Chief Executive Coimbatore Venkatakrishnan cited broad-based franchise growth and productivity gains in the investment bank, where equities income surged 44% and return on tangible equity improved to 16%. Group Finance Director Angela Cross noted that structural hedge income accounted for about 45% of group net interest income in the quarter, with reinvestment occurring at a 4.3% yield versus the 3.5% planning assumption, and that up to £500 million in additional structural cost actions are anticipated in the second half to drive 2027 efficiency.
