German chemical giant BASF filed a lawsuit against Apple in a federal court in Texas on the 3rd, alleging infringement of its patents related to facial recognition technology. BASF's subsidiary Trinamix claims that Apple has used its patented technology in many models of iPhone and iPad. According to the complaint, Apple did not adopt the patented technology when it introduced Face ID with the iPhone X in 2017, but now uses it in the iPhone 15, iPhone 16, iPhone 17, and iPad Pro, among others. Trinamix asserts that Apple knew or should have known about the patent infringement and is seeking damages and an injunction. Apple has not responded to requests for comment.
