Bending Spoons has agreed to acquire workplace collaboration company Miro for $1.36 billion in cash, an equity value of $1.79 billion, a 92% drop from the $17.5 billion valuation Miro received in late 2021. The Italian serial acquirer said Miro now generates about $600 million in annual recurring revenue, 90% of it from businesses and enterprises, holds roughly $435 million in net cash, and is profitable. Miro, founded in 2011 as the whiteboarding tool RealtimeBoard, grew from five million to about 30 million users between 2020 and 2022 and now reports more than four million paying users and 100 million total users. The company, which had about 1,200 employees in 2022, cut 119 staff in February 2023 and reportedly another 275 people in October 2024. The deal follows Bending Spoons' purchase of Airtable for $1.28 billion last month, as the acquirer targets large SaaS companies that were priced in 2021 as future software giants but matured into slower-growing businesses with substantial recurring revenue.
