In his first shareholder letter, Berkshire Hathaway CEO Greg Abel declared that shareholder capital does not belong to management, reframing the CEO role as fiduciary rather than co-owner. Abel backed the pledge by exiting 16 positions, committing $10 billion to Alphabet's $80 billion AI infrastructure equity raise, and posting an 18% increase in first-quarter 2026 operating earnings to $11.35 billion. He also reopened the buyback window after 21 months with $234 million in repurchases, personally bought $15 million in Class A shares, and pledged his entire 2026 salary to buybacks. Cash reserves reached a record $397.38 billion, while net earnings more than doubled to $10.106 billion from $4.603 billion a year earlier.
