The five largest US banks are on pace to generate a record $180 billion in trading revenue in 2026, according to KBW Managing Director Christopher McGratty. McGratty noted that capital markets expectations have ramped throughout the year, with equity trading and investment banking revenues coming in strong. Morgan Stanley stood out with $148 billion in net new asset growth in the second quarter, driven in part by the SpaceX IPO and a 70% market share among the top 100 unicorns. He graded both trading and investment banking performance as an A or A+, citing broadening activity in Asia and other markets, and said pipelines suggest sustainability and further upside from sponsor activity.
