Microsoft CorporationBill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft and billionaire philanthropist, has warned that no government anywhere is adequately prepared for the changes artificial intelligence will bring to society, amid growing risks to employment, the use of AI in attacks, and addiction to AI companions. Gates, who previously held a positive view of AI, has shifted his stance in recent months and says governments are lagging far behind on the issue. He nonetheless believes AI still holds enormous potential to help the world's poorest people if the technology is managed properly. The Gates Foundation has announced plans to spend at least 1 billion dollars over the next two years to expand access to AI, part of the foundation's previously announced spending plan of 9 billion dollars a year. The funding will support partners applying AI in education, public health, and agriculture, as well as developing the data infrastructure AI requires. Gates also called on governments to work together to prevent potential problems, disclosing that he has discussed the issue with President Donald Trump and the US administration's team, and that he plans to meet with China's President Xi Jinping later this year.
