BioMarin Pharmaceutical Inc. is acquiring Alesta Therapeutics for $275 million upfront, gaining an oral treatment candidate for the rare bone disorder hypophosphatasia. The deal gives BioMarin access to ALE1, which is in early-stage clinical trials and could become the first oral therapy for HPP if successful. BioMarin may pay up to an additional $215 million if ALE1 reaches certain development and commercial milestones. The acquisition aligns with BioMarin's existing focus on rare skeletal diseases, including its established Voxzogo drug, and follows its $4.8 billion deal for Amicus Therapeutics.
