The Bangkok Mass Transit Authority, or BMTA, has successfully offered its first sustainability bond worth 4.5 billion baht, with a 6-year maturity and a coupon of 1.74 percent per annum. The subscription was oversubscribed by 1.65 times the offer amount. The bond is guaranteed as to principal and interest by the Ministry of Finance, with Government Savings Bank and Bank of Ayudhya acting as arrangers. The proceeds will be used to restructure debt and procure 1,520 electric buses, which have been set as key performance indicators for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and tackling air pollution.
