Bank of Japan Board Member Koji Nakamura told the Upper House Financial Affairs Committee on the 16th that if necessary adjustments to the degree of monetary easing are delayed, upside price risks could materialize and subsequently weigh on the economy. He added that conducting monetary policy appropriately in response to economic and price conditions would contribute to price stability and the achievement of sustainable growth for the Japanese economy. Nakamura referred to the Bank of Japan Act, explaining that while the primary objective of monetary policy is price stability, it aims to foster the sound development of the national economy through that stability. He declined to comment on the government's basic policy.
