Broadcom IncCEO Tan reaffirms strong, durable AI compute demand and stands by fiscal 2027/2028 AI semiconductor revenue targets despite the slowdown debate.
Broadcom CEO Hock Tan dismissed concerns that a slowdown in frontier AI model development would hurt the chipmaker, telling CNBC he remains committed to the company's long-term revenue targets. The comments followed a weekend essay by Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei urging moderation in the pace of model development, a message backed by OpenAI CEO Sam Altman and Elon Musk, which prompted investors in AI infrastructure providers to reconsider compute demand during Monday's session. Broadcom shares fell 4.8%, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF dropped 5.6%, and stocks of other data-center component sellers were also hit hard. Asked by Jim Cramer whether the AI slowdown debate had caused him to reconsider Broadcom's fiscal 2027 and 2028 AI semiconductor forecasts, Tan replied, "No, not in the least," adding that demand for compute infrastructure for AI development, frontier models and inference remains very strong and durable. Tan also said Anthropic is on track to become Broadcom's largest custom chip customer in 2027 and to hold that position in 2028, a shift from Google, which has historically been Broadcom's biggest custom customer through co-designed tensor processing units.
