Butterfly Network shares climbed 17% on Thursday after Midjourney revealed a new medical imaging platform powered by Butterfly's Ultrasound-on-Chip technology. Midjourney introduced its healthcare division, Midjourney Medical, and a flagship imaging system called the Midjourney Scanner, which incorporates Butterfly's licensed chip technology with advanced image reconstruction and hyperscale computing to generate high-resolution three-dimensional full-body scans in about one minute. The company plans to deploy the first scanner at a flagship wellness spa in San Francisco as part of a consumer-oriented health strategy, and is developing four hardware products in total, including two handheld devices and two larger imaging systems. TD Cowen analyst Joshua Jennings noted the launch underscores the underappreciated value of Butterfly's platform and could strengthen the case for BFLY Embedded as a licensable infrastructure generating licensing fees, chip sales, and revenue-sharing opportunities. Butterfly management is expected to discuss the partnership on a TD Cowen conference call.
