Cabinet approves southern dual-track railway project worth 106 billion baht

The mobile Cabinet meeting, the first of 2026, has approved the second phase of the dual-track railway project on the southern route, with a budget of 106 billion baht. The project covers the routes from Chumphon to Surat Thani, Surat Thani to Hat Yai Junction, and Hat Yai Junction to Padang Besar. Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul revealed that the meeting also expedited the study of an additional rail link project from Hat Yai Junction to Su-ngai Kolok district, aiming to complete rail transport in the South and create a seamless network in line with government policy. This project will enhance travel and freight efficiency, connect the southern economy with other regions, and create tangible economic and trade opportunities with neighboring countries.
