Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia, stated that the United States is using the issue of forced labor as a pretext to impose a new round of import tariffs on Cambodia and other countries. Last Thursday, the United States announced import tariffs on goods from 60 countries at rates of 10% to 12.5%, accusing these nations of failing to enforce measures prohibiting the import of goods produced with forced labor. For Cambodia, the United States set the import tariff at 10% under this measure. Sun Chanthol said at a press conference that Cambodia does not use forced labor and does not procure raw materials from countries that use forced labor, adding that the United States is merely citing certain processes or criteria as an excuse to collect import tariffs.
