Cameco CorpWestinghouse IPO could unlock value; Q2 miss due to lumpy equity earnings

Cameco's second-quarter earnings missed expectations largely due to lower equity earnings from its 49% stake in Westinghouse Electric, which it co-owns with Brookfield Renewable. The nuclear fuel supplier reported a CA$10 million loss from Westinghouse, down from CA$126 million in earnings a year earlier, causing adjusted earnings per share of CA$0.18 to fall well short of the CA$0.36 consensus. However, the decline stemmed from lumpiness in Westinghouse's business, and the company's value has since grown to an estimated CA$10.8 billion, according to Desjardins Securities. Cameco and Brookfield Renewable are preparing to take Westinghouse public, having recently filed a Form S-1 with the SEC, which could unlock significant value for Cameco shareholders if market conditions remain favorable.
