Canada's Competition Bureau is launching a review of competition across the country's food-and-drinks supply chain, citing a sharp rise in food prices that has put significant pressure on consumers. The review will assess three parts of the chain: production and processing, transport and distribution, and retail pricing practices. Interim Commissioner of Competition Jeanne Pratt said the examination builds on earlier work in the retail grocery sector and will look at all parts of the food supply chain. A final report is due in the first half of next year, and the bureau has invited views from the public and organizations with experience in the food supply chain.
