Canada's trade surplus reached 4.24 billion Canadian dollars in May, the highest level in four years. Exports rose for the fourth consecutive month, with goods exports to the United States, its largest trading partner, increasing 1.5 percent to the highest level since February last year. The trade surplus with the U.S. widened to 11.6 billion Canadian dollars, the largest since the record high in January 2025. Meanwhile, the trade deficit with countries other than the U.S. expanded to 7.4 billion Canadian dollars, but a senior economist at Export Development Canada noted that the trend of trade diversification is continuing.
