Casio Mini calculator became a massive hit, selling one million units in less than a year.
On August 2, 1972, Casio Computer launched the Casio Mini home calculator. It was a product that miniaturized and lowered the price of calculators, which had been mainly for business use, making them suitable for home use, priced at 12,800 yen. This was achieved by reducing costs in the LSI and key components. With a six-digit display and only addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division functions, it became a massive hit, selling one million units in less than a year after release. This development philosophy of small and cheap became established as a winning pattern for Japanese manufacturing as a whole.
