Cboe Global Markets IncChicago Federal Reserve President Austan Goolsbee said Thursday that inflation is still trending the wrong way, while New York Fed President John Williams expressed optimism that price pressures will ease. Goolsbee, speaking on CNBC, noted some improvement in services inflation but stressed that inflation remains the bigger problem compared to the job market. Williams, in remarks at a money fund symposium, cited waning tariff impacts, hopes for an end to the Iran war easing energy prices, and moderating rent increases as reasons inflation will decline to 3.5% this year and eventually back to the 2% target by 2028. Neither official indicated a likelihood of near-term interest rate changes, with Goolsbee declining to speculate on the rate path and Williams saying the current stance is well positioned to restore price stability.
